Mark Millar Talks Superman

Mark Millar (writer of the comic Wanted, among others) has been talking for a while now about how he wants to take over the Superman franchise at Warner Brothers when they get around to resurrecting those movies.

Some more details about his storyline came out today when he spoke to Empire Magazine. Millar wants an eight-hour epic, told over three films released a year apart from each other. The story would follow Kal-El's birth on Krypton a thousand years ago and "end with Superman alone on Planet Earth, the last being left on the planet, as they yellow sun turns red and starts to supernova, and he loses his powers."

Epic indeed. In semi-related news, Christopher Nolan has returned from his post-Bat vacation and has said that if they can get the story right, then he's down for a third Batman movie. Otherwise, he's a no-go. Some Warner Bros. exec has said that they won't make a decision on Superman's release date until they figure out what's going on with Batman, so needless to say - get the freakin' story right and let's get this show on the road.

I also heard that about Nolan getting back for the next Batman movie would get the next Superman started.
I also hear that Brandon Rougth might possibly return as Superman.
I, uh, don't really like that 'epic' Superman story...to be perfectly honest...

I am always down for a good 8 hour epic

Put me down for 8 hours too, Boze.

Head - I honestly don't think that Warner Bros. (or any studio) will let him end the series like that, so I've got higher hopes for it than just what he says.

I'm all for the trilogy (I'd watch them back-to-back), just saying that story isn't very....Superman.
But I believe too that a studio wouldn't touch that ending.

Not that it has any merit, but Dick Donner, the director of Superman: The Movie, has been pimping Geoff Johns pretty hard to write the next film. I think Millar's treatment could be interesting but alot of his work is a little too dark for a Superman movie. Of course, this is seemingly what Warner is looking for right now, so we'll see. Personally, I think they should go with Branz's Saga of the Superman treatment.

Thanks, Jared! I agree. Superman 6.0 (or the next installment) begins a trilogy that leads Clark on a personal journey from raising his son (Kon-El) to fighting off Apokolips with Batman and finding his cousin Supergirl in Gotham Bay. My storyline even intertwines the JLA with movies like GL, Flash and Batman. So I don't see why I'm not getting phone calls from the WB OR Dick Donner
