Pacino as Bond Villian?!

Nice hair, chief.

The fanboys over at Ain't It Cool News aren't necessarily the most reliable sort, but this rumor is too good to pass up.

They say that word leaked that Al Pacino is set to play the mastermind behind the events of Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. Apparently, he'll have a brief cameo role in QoS and (I assume) be featured more heavily in the third movie of this rebooted franchise. I think this could be really cool if it's actually true. We all know that Pacino plays the same character in every movie anyway, so why not bring that maniacal raised voice to the role of master Bond villian? I like it.

In the meantime, check out The Solar Sentinel's recent post on the new teaser poster for the newest James Bond film, Quantum of Solace.

I actually read QoS this weekend (about 20 pages, so nothing big) and apparently, the definition of this highly discussed phrase is simple.

quantum of solace: (n.) the degree of humanity or compassion one person has towards another.

i.e. His quantum of solace towards her was at zero, and therefore he cared not whether she lived or died.

Perhaps this is an elusion to the fact that Bond will fall in love with a girl, but she'll utterly betray him, leading him to a QoS of zero.

My dear dashel - from the words of Daniel Craig himself:

“And at the end of the last movie, Bond has the love of his life [Eva Green’s Vesper Lynd] taken away from him and he never got that quantum of solace. So he’s looking for revenge, you know, to make himself happy with the world again. But it, the title, also alludes to something else in the film,” he added.”

There has also been word that the film will begin 20 minutes after the conclusion to "Casino Royale" and that, aside from Bond himself, there is no direct connection in the movie to the actual story of Quantum of Solace found in the "For Your Eyes Only" short story collection. They just thought the title best fit Bond's attitude after Vesper's betrayal.

Dammit Ben! Pacino does not play the same character every time! The man has versatility. I don't think anyone would say Michael Corleone is similiar to the blind sgt. he played in Scent of a Woman.
